Hello Whose Land supporters! The last time we reached out, we were facing our toughest challenge yet. The federal government cut all of our National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grants which for 2024-2026 represented 75% of our operating budget. It’s been a tough time but we regrouped and we’re back to work. That’s because we believe deeply in what we do even when - and maybe especially when - it is under threat. This is a time when cultural organizations like ours - who don’t shy away from words like “race” or “justice” and who know that intellectual debate and disagreement are the cornerstones of education - must stand strong in the face of those intent on breaking, defunding, or even criminalizing what we do. Whose Land’s work is based on the premise that history matters and helps us understand what it means to be human. We provide tools to communicate across cultures, to bring people together through shared stories, to problem-solve as a community, and, by understanding the past, to envision a better future. And so, with renewed urgency and inspiration, we are eager to roll up our sleeves. Thank you for sticking with us. For that and for so much more, there’s a lot to be thankful for as the upcoming holiday approaches. In the upcoming weeks we look forward to sharing our new vision and approach with you.
