Oneida Nation, Wisconsin

The Archives of Place Project

The Oneida Nation Archives of Place Project involves two teams - Oneida Tribal Elders and Oneida teens (through the Oneida Nation High School) working in parallel and together to build grassroots collections informed by intergenerational memories of place on Oneida territory. Focusing on sites of colonial domination as well as sites of recovery and healing, participants have conducted individual and group oral history interviews, interactive Memory Mapping events (involving hand-drawn maps, stickers and Post-Its), and archival research and preservation activities.

Outcomes of their work include a digitized Community Tribal Archive, school curricula, and at least one podcast episode for the forthcoing Whose Land? podcast.

Sponsored by the Whiting Foundation and Wisconsin Humanities.
